Was contacted by the current owner of this car. He’d consider trading it for rust work on HIS M alibu (1975). Which is funny because I bought the poncho to winter drive so MY M alibu didn’t get rusty.
I’m actually entertaining the thought, though I just can’t take on another basket case. I’d love to get that Pontiac though,
acres of fireapple red.
I once got a honk and thumbs up from a moving train in this car. Big Red was always 2 tons of smiles. I haven’t gotten back to the guy yet.

If you're looking for someone to convince you NOT to do it, I fear you've come to the wrong place. Nothing but enablers round here.

Well just how many basket cases do you have? There’s the obvious rusty hulk and ???
I don’t think you would have posted this here if you didn’t want a good reason to go for it. It depends on just how rusty the Malibu is though.

Those mid-70s A-bodies are orphans. A friend is fixing up a 73 sprint (GMC el Camino) and had to use floors for a 72 (A totally different and smaller car) there is zero parts for these cars.

Yes but a whole car for rust work! Hopefully it doesn’t require Binky levels of reconstruction like you current project but I think you would have to see just how much work would be required for it.

That seems like a pretty good deal to me. That poncho is sweet!

Its a great car, and has maybe picked up a couple hundred miles in the 13-14 years since I last saw it. Guy I sold it to parked it in a field, sold at his farm auction. From there it was parked in a barn for years. I’d be worried about mice. But I am tempted.

You should at least go look at the thing. You may find a bunch of rodent nests and chewed up wires, and then it would be pretty easy to walk away from.

How can you say no to this? Have you seen any recent pics? It doesnt look like a basket case in anything I’ve seen?

If the sellers description is accurate that’s a nice price. Not really a fan of the shaved door handles, but not a deal breaker.

That confused people last time I owned it. Couldn’t wrap their heads around “its a 4 door, there’s a door right in front of it with a handle, if you need to get in the back someone will let you in” I just shaved them to see if i could.

Guy I sold it to asked about putting door h andles back on, insisted that he have them. He put the chrome back on the nose that I also shaved.

T he fender mirrors don’t look original - are they?
Also it looks like a 2 door that’s supposed to be a 4 door . Why is that?

Those mirrors are original, in their original spot. useless, but cool. I’ve seen other 65 chiefs with the same mirror(s) but on the doors. I shaved the doorhandles to see if I could do it.

I didn’t say yes, and I know better but these old cars keep Corleoning me. I keep trying to get out of this.........
Like many of us I’m blinded by the chrome.

Then again, that's what Painless is for.
